Objective of the position

As Sourcing Manager Metals & Minerals you will develop a diversified procurement portfolio for lithium, copper, cobalt, nickel and other critical raw materials. You will identify and qualify upstream projects, negotiate offtake and pre-finance structures, ensure logistics and quality assurance and hand over tradable volumes to the trading desk. Your mandate includes the entire value chain from the mine to the European port.

Core tasks

Upstream Origination - Identification of new mining and recycling projects in LATAM, Africa, EMEA, Asia
- Establishment of long-term off-take, pre-payment or streaming contracts
ESG & Compliance - Implementation of the OECD Due Diligence Guidelines, LME Responsible Sourcing and EU Critical Raw Materials Act
- Implementation of ESG audits, traceability checks and sanctions screenings
Contract Structuring - Negotiation of parameter/penalty formulas
- Design of payment and security mechanisms
Logistics & Infrastructure - Securing bulk/container slots, rail and storage capacities
- Coordination of charter parties, laytime management, customs and port processes
Quality Assurance - Organization of independent assays, moisture and sieve analyses; management of Q&Q disputes
- Maintenance of a register of certified laboratories and surveyors
Stakeholder interface - Handover of tradable flows to trading, risk, legal and logistics teams
- Cooperation with development banks and financial partners for working capital models

 

Technical requirements

  • 5+ years experience in sourcing, origination or trading of physical metals/minerals
  • Sound knowledge of contract and penalty structures, metal qualities and moisture management
  • Practice in chartering, freight rate negotiation, port and customs handling (bulk & container)
  • Business fluent in German & English; Spanish, French or Mandarin as a plus
  • Confident handling of ETRM systems, market and logistics data
