Objective of the position

As Trader Energy you will be responsible for your own crude oil and natural gas trading book. You will identify market opportunities, structure physical cargoes and pipeline flows, hedge price and logistics risks and manage the entire deal lifecycle - from contract conclusion to settlement.

Core tasks

Subject area Typical activities
Origination & Deal Capture - Conclusion of spot and forward transactions (FOB, CIF, DDP)

- Takeover of offtake, pre-payment and supply agreements from the sourcing team

Market & arbitrage analysis - Continuous monitoring of global benchmarks and quality spreads

- Identification of arbitrage windows

Price & risk management - Development and maintenance of a structured hedge portfolio

- Close coordination with Risk & Treasury on limits, VAR and FX exposures

Physical processing - Chartering decisions for tankers / LNG carriers and pipeline nominations

- Coordination of terminal slots, inspections, laytime claims and documents (BL, Q&Q)

Compliance & Reporting - Ensuring compliance with REMIT, MAR, EU embargo regulations & KYC standards

- Daily mark-to-market, P&L attribution and deal entry into the ETRM system

Stakeholder management - Interface to logistics, legal, finance, operations and external service providers (inspectors, brokers, ship owners)

 

Technical requirements

  • 3 - 8 years of relevant experience in physical oil or gas trading
  • In-depth knowledge of Incoterms, laytime calculation, quality specifications
  • Routine in dealing with trade and logistics documents (BL, NOR, Cargo Manifests)
  • Confident use of ETRM systems, Excel / VBA; data affinity for real-time analytics
  • Business fluent in German and English; other business languages (French, Arabic, Spanish) an advantage

  • Strong negotiation and networking skills at both C-level and operations level
