Objective of the position

As Trader Metals & Minerals manage your own trading book for lithium, copper, cobalt, nickel and other critical raw materials. You will identify market opportunities, conclude spot and forward contracts, manage logistical and quality-related risks and hedge price exposures via futures markets.

Core tasks

Subject area Typical activities
Origination & Deal Capture - Conclusion of FOB/DAP/CIF transactions with mines, smelters, recyclers and industrial customers
- Development of pre-finance, off-take or consignment models
Market & arbitrage analysis - Monitoring of global benchmarks and quality/stock basis spreads
- Recognition of arbitrage windows by region, product form and time structure

 

Price & risk management - Development of a structured hedge portfolio on LME/CME
- Coordination with Risk & Treasury on limits, VAR, FX risks and credit lines
Physical processing - Control of bulk, container and rail transports; coordination of charter parties & laytime claims
- Organization of independent assays, humidity and penalty calculations
ESG & Compliance - Ensuring compliance with the OECD Due Diligence Guidelines, LME Responsible Sourcing, EU Critical Raw Materials Act
ETRM - Complete KYC, sanctions and customs compliance as well as documentation in the
Stakeholder management - Interface to logistics, legal, finance, operations and external inspectors, surveyors and banks

Technical requirements

  • 3 - 8 years front office experience in physical trading of metals or minerals
  • Sound knowledge of quality parameters and penalty structures
  • Experience with chartering/freight rates and port/customs handling
  • Confident handling of LME / CME products, ETRM systems and real-time data feeds
  • Business fluent in German & English; Spanish, French or Mandarin as a plus
